Vacuum-glass Double-layer Curtain Wall Opening up a New Way for Building Energy Saving
At present, as an integral part of national strategies of energy saving and emission reduction, building energy saving has been widely concerned. As the exterior enclosure structure of the building, the curtain wall plays a very important role on building energy saving, which has attracted much attention from professionals in this industry. Long Wenzhi, a curtain wall expert from China Construction Metal Structure Association, pointed out that the practice has proved that the heat transfer coefficient of the vacuum-glass double-layer curtain wall is 40% lower than that of the traditional insulating-glass double-layer curtain wall. As the new-type energy saving double-layer curtain wall with good performance-price ratio, which is researched and developed in our country for the first time, the vacuum glass promotes the performance of the double-layer curtain wall and its cost is similar to that of the insulating-glass double-layer curtain wall. Its application will provide a new way for building energy saving.
Long Wenzhi said that, the double-layer curtain wall was introduced to our country in 1998 and presently applied to 50 odd buildings. Although there were several successful cases, but the satisfactory projects were few, which were due to blind design, simply copying of technology used by foreign countries in Frigid Zone, low construction quality and insufficient understanding that the double-layer curtain wall is the exterior enclosure structure of “climatic adaptation”. In addition, the research and independent innovation based upon China’s climate features are not enough.
China’s geography, environment, conditions, and national situation have very large differences from foreign countries. Most areas in our country have cold winter and hot summer. Compared with the areas at the same latitude, the cold and hot durations are rather long. Therefore, the double-layer curtain wall should be suitable to the climate features of our country, and should not copy the curtain wall structure of foreign countries or some foreign companies. Based on studying and digesting foreign techniques, combining with China’s geography, climate, environment and other features, develop the energy-saving, comfortable and economical double-layer curtain wall with good performance-price ratio, which is suitable for four areas in our countries, i.e. cold area, severe cold area, area with hot summer and cold winter and area with hot summer and warm winter, and the vacuum-glass double-layer curtain wall is one of the applicable ones.
Compared with common glass and insulating glass, the vacuum glass has more advantages: the standard vacuum glass which is used as the inner layer of the double-layer curtain wall does not reduce the safety, and its heat transfer coefficient is 40% lower than that of the insulating-glass double-layer curtain wall. It can satisfy the requirements for heat transfer coefficient of transparent curtain wall in four areas, i.e. cold area, severe cold area, area with hot summer and cold winter and area with hot summer and warm winter, especially the summer in the area with hot summer and cold winter and the area with hot summer and warm winter; the vacuum-glass double-layer curtain wall also improves the performances of sound insulation, comfortableness and ventilation of the traditional double-layer curtain wall. The cost of the standard vacuum glass is similar to that of the insulating glass, therefore, the vacuum-glass double-layer curtain wall is the new-type energy-saving curtain wall with good performance-price ratio, which is researched and developed in China for the first time and deserves the intensive development and promotion.
